Web Development

Challenge

The AAS’s vision is to see transformed lives on the African continent through science, and they resolved to redesign their website to further this goal.

I was tasked with developing their intranet, ensuring that it matches the provided design files. I was to completely customise the theme to fit in with the fonts, colors and content of the AAS brand.

Process

After receiving the brief and the design assets required to undertake the project, I created a mindmap of all the sections I was to design. This enabled me to have a higher level view of the entire project, as well as which areas required more focus.

Solution

Bootstrap was the framework of choice when designing the website due to its wide versatility and popularity. The static website files were generated by Jekyll, which avoids code repetition due to it templating language support.

Referencing the provided design files as a guide, I used bootstrap to layout and build all the intranet pages, with Jekyll generating the resultant static files.

After feedback rounds, testing and iterations, I supplied the final design to the development team for SharePoint integration.
